Keith Raniere and Joe Bruno; the forgotten connection

Every once in a while, my mind wanders off to thinking about how Vanguard views the world and what’s going on around him. I’ve concluded there are two possible scenarios
1. That he must go to sleep every night (or, more accurately, every afternoon) laughing his ass off about how he’s gamed the system and thumbed his nose at conventional society. Now I see they even have a new website HERE
2. He is a scared little man counting the days till a government swat team armed with warrants crash through his front door


I thought about it a lot when I read last week about the most recent indictment of Joe Bruno (HERE). Although I personally think that Joe did a hell of a lot of good things for the Capital Region while he was Majority Leader of the New York Senate, I also believe that he used the power of his office to line his own pockets and to take care of his friends. Hell, he even took care of his old paramour, Marcia White (HERE).

Unlike the original indictment, which included eight separate felony charges, the new one contains just two charges, both of which concern his receipt of cash payments - and other goodies such as the free use of a jet plane - from his buddy, Jared E. Abbruzzese. These, of course, are the same two charges on which he was found guilty back in December 2009 - and which were later overturned when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors had to prove than a party being charged under the Honest Services statute had actually been bribed as opposed to just covering up their ill-gotten gains.

So what’s the Raniere connection here you ask? Well, as was originally reported by Jim Odato back in September 2007 (HERE), Sen. Joe and his buddies on the New York Republican Senate Campaign Committee received $34,763 of free plane rides (and an additional $31,600 in cash) from Sara and Clare Bronfman back then. Joe really did like the private jets

And at that same time, according to numerous other sources, Joe was also getting free nude massages from a NXIVM-paid massage therapist and special therapy sessions from none other than Keith’s right-hand woman, Nancy Salzman. (Given his voracious sexual needs, it is assumed that Keith also has a left-hand woman, a right-foot woman, a left-foot woman, etc., etc., etc.). And, in return, Bruno helped to deflect the attention of state and local authorities from NXIVM’s various illegal operations - and, according to one source, tried to get Saratoga County D.A. Jim Murphy to indict ex-NXIVM consultant Joe OHara after the Albany County indictment of OHara was dismissed.

So why didn’t the Feds include the freebies that Bruno got from the Bronfman brats in the new indictment? Is it because they didn’t want to take on the “Dream Team” of lawyers that Sara and Clare would have undoubtedly funded for Uncle Joe if they were included in the indictment? Or is it because the Bronfman family also makes contributions to just about anyone who holds a political office that has any discretion or power? Either way, the Bronfman brats and Raniere got another free pass from the government.

And I say “another free pass” because NXIVM and its leaders have also been allowed to carry on a variety of other illegal activities while other local residents are charged for doing basically the same thing. Some examples of this double-standard approach to justice include the following:

Annie George, who lives in Al Lawrence’s old mansion in Rexford and who was recently indicted by the Feds for “harboring an illegal alien for financial gain” (HERE) - which sounds an awful lot like what Raniere and NXIVM have been doing for years with all of the young Mexican beauties that they have been bringing in to provide services to Raniere and Salzman, and all of the foreign nannies that are currently raising NXIVM love-child Gaelen Keeffe.

Dave Monsour, a local businessman in Queensbury who was arrested because he allegedly failed to pay some $70,000 in state income taxes and who was recently freed when he was able to prove that the state had failed to realize that its calculations were based on non-taxable income(HERE).

Meanwhile, of course, Raniere and his followers at NXIVM are laughing their asses off at the whole concept of anyone paying taxes. And, although the collective tax liabilities of NXIVM and its members are reportedly in excess of $40 million, what are the state and the federal government doing to collect those funds? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING! That’s right folks. If you just don’t file any tax returns - and you have the Bronfman brats’ millions of dollars to hire lots and lots of attorneys - you apparently can just treat April 15th like any other day. TAXES? WE DON’T PAY ANY FUCKING TAXES!

The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, a local charity that provides care and housing for retired race horses and that was recently sued by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman who wants to replace the organization’s entire Board of Directors for what he deems to be “reckless conduct”(HERE). Meanwhile, of course, the Bronfman sisters continue to use several foundations that they set up at Raniere’s direction to supposedly launder money from Mexico and Canada and to buy expensive toys for Raniere to play with (HERE).

Yep, folks, you really have to admire old Keithie and his ability to live as he pleases without any interference from any level of government. Seriously, do any of you know anyone else who has basically told the Feds, the State, and even local governmental officials that he has no intention of complying with their laws and rules and who has never been held accountable?

John Reed (the one who was a journalist and poet rather than the one who was the Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange) once wrote: “In the relations of a weak Government and a rebellious people, there comes a time when every act of the authorities exasperates the masses, and every refusal to act excites their contempt.” I don’t know about you folks but I, for one, am extremely exasperated that all of our governments have allowed Raniere and his brood to thumb their noses at the rest of us.
Not too long ago, the Times Union ran an excellent series that exposed a lot of illegal activities involving Raniere and other NXIVM members (See HERE here and here for that series). And what’s happened since then? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING!

It has been said that all governments come to an end when people stop believing in their moral authority. So I guess the final chapter on Vanguard hasn’t been written yet.

Which of the two scenarios I paraphrased in the beginning plays out
1. Keith grows old as a degenerate, fat, old pervert chasing children around Halfmoon.
2. A nice federal cell in super max Colorado

Only time will tell.
